HOW TO HELP

We aim to empower impoverished Nepali communities with training, charitable aide from fundraising, and increased tourist income from environmentally focused treks and cultural tours. When we work together, there are “no limits.”

In January of 2020, when trekking to the Everest Base Camp with Ram, I realized that Westerners who come to Nepal regularly are often paired with a guide who is not only their guide but a trusted, long-time friend. Two particular people come to my mind: an Austrian climber and a Romanian female trekker. They and their guides shared stories about their previous treks and climbs but also about projects they were involved in various villages. I remember thinking that one day I would love to be like them and instantly knew that Ram would be a perfect partner for this kind of partnership. It didn’t take much to get Ram excited about the idea of trekking with a purpose and a few months later Nepal Without Limits was born.  Our focus on children and educational opportunities was a natural choice as we both greatly value education.  A day before we set off on our trek to the Base Camp, I spent a day with James, Ram’s son volunteering in his school in Kathmandu.  Ram’s commitment to education is clear as his son attends a private school which is quite expensive, especially now when his income is limited due to Pandemic.

In the spring of 2021, with only private, individual donations, Nepal Without Limits provided uniforms, workbooks, school supplies and sports equipment to students in the village of Lapubesi in the Gorkha region. In June, again just with small individual donations, Nepal Without Limits was able to provide some medical supplies to fight the pandemic in the village of Solukhumbu.

In May 2022, Nepal Without Limits is planning its inaugural climb of Mera peak and a trek to the Everest Base Camp which will be combined with fund raising efforts to continue supporting the community in Ram’s hometown village in Solukhumbu.  For the next few months our most immediate focus will be 150 students in Shree Sagarmatha Basic School.  This time in addition to uniforms and school supplies our goal is to equip each child with a backpack and a pair of shoes. As our fundraising abilities increase, we would like to expand the scope of our outreach and provide educational and health assistance to women as well.

Ram, Simon and I, despite the uncertainty of the current situation due to Covid, remain optimistic about the future.  We are looking forward to all the opportunities that will be  manifested and brought to fruition through our efforts and contributions of our supporters.

My job is not a guarantee, but I love it, because I have a chance to meet with different people from different countries, but the problem is there is no tourism.  Because of the Pandemic I have no job and no income, but I am still a lucky one. Because of the friends I made I had a chance to visit Switzerland, Germany and Italy.

The people in Solukhumbu and Lapubesi are really poor and cannot offer their children basic necessities.  I remember my childhood and how poor I was and I decided that I will do whatever I can to help.  In the past I asked my German, Swiss and British friends to help and they helped with their personal donations, but there is always more need.

Between 2017 and 2020 I was a chairman of the school in Lapubesi.  I am not in that position any longer, but my aim is to continue to look after the children and their education, especially in my hometown village in Solukhumbu. I am very happy that Joanna, Simon and I, with the help of supporters of Nepal Without Limits, can work towards that goal.

I am very pleased to bee a part of this wonderful charity and hope we can all help to make everyone’s life and circumstances better.  My relationship with Nepal goes back to 1991.  The moment I stepped out in the “Foothills of the Himalaya” I was instantly hooked and have been lucky to have been back on several occasions and have been very fortunate to give others an opportunity to travel with me.  Each time the relationship with the country and its people strengthens and the desire to help less fortunate grows stronger.  Each time I’ve visited I have taken charitable donations either in form of clothes, money or just my time to help.

My relationship with Ram began on a trip in the spring of 2014 when I led a “Bee Safari” for “Bees Abroad”, a UK based charity, and Ram was one of our guides.  We soon became friends as he made a close connection with my son Luke.  Ram was a fantastic conduit for us, allowing us access to the heart of rural communities that didn’t benefit from the much needed tourist trade.

Ram is a great trekking guide and his welcoming, friendly nature ensures his guests have a safe, rewarding and memorable time while in Nepal.  His charitable nature and understanding of the needs of his fellow Nepalis inspires others to work towards providing for those needs.

Joanna enjoyed similar adventures in Nepal with Ram and also saw the need and potential for helping out with a joined up charitable effort.  Together we aim to make communities better off by providing charitable aide to children, empowering them with the provision of training resources and also the possibility of enriching those communities with tourist income from environmentally focused treks and cultural tours for our supporters when travel restrictions are lifted.

If we believe and work together there are truly “No limits.”
